How to add a temporary landlord to manage my tenancy while overseas

If you're a self-managing landlord and will be overseas for more than 21 days, the Residential Tenancies Act requires you to nominate someone to manage your property while you’re away. This person doesn’t need to be a professional or a property manager - they can be anyone of your choosing. It must, however, be someone you trust to make decisions and manage the tenancy in your absence.

Please see the below steps to invite a temporary landlord to manage your tenancies in myRent while you are away, as well as inform your tenants and Tenancy Services.

Step 1: Go to the Portfolio access page of your account

Step 2: Click on + Add temporary landlord

Step 3: Add the temporary landlord's name, email address and phone number, as well as the dates during which they will be managing the tenancy on your behalf, and click Save & continue

The temporary landlord’s contact details will automatically appear on the People page in each tenant's portal.

Step 4: Click on Generate & e-sign paperwork

Once you have e-signed, a link to sign the document will be sent to your temporary landlord. Once this is fully signed, we’ll submit the form directly to Tenancy Services on your behalf.

Step 5: Click on Create message to notify my tenants to send a bulk message to all your tenants

Step 6: Once you have sent the message and are ready to give the temporary landlord access to your property portfolio, navigate back to your Portfolio access page and click on Info next to the temporary landlord's details

Step 7: Click on Give access

Step 8: Ensure that all details are correct and click Invite

The temporary landlord will now appear as a co-landlord on your property portfolio.

You will just need to remember to remove their access once your nominated period ends. This can be done by clicking on the bin icon next to their details on your Portfolio access page and then selecting OK on the confirmation dialog box.
